Polished Concrete in Newport, MI and Southeast Michigan

Polished concrete is for the floor where you want the look of the concrete itself, densified and polished, with no coating to wear off. It is common in shops, high-traffic spaces, and homes that want a clean, natural surface.

Polished concrete is mechanically ground with progressively finer diamond abrasives, then densified and polished to a natural sheen. A densifier hardens the surface so it holds up to traffic, and the polishing brings out the natural aggregate and a smooth, reflective finish. There is no coating on top, so there is nothing to peel or wear off over time. The honest part is this: polishing shows the existing slab. Cracks, stains, and old marks stay visible because we are refining the concrete, not covering it.

Why this matters in Michigan

A densified, polished surface is dense and hard, so salt and moisture have a harder time getting in. With no coating to fail, there is less to break down through a Michigan winter, though the slab itself still needs to be sound.

Our process for polished concrete

  1. 1

We look at the slab and set expectations on what polishing will and will not hide.

  2. 2

We grind the concrete with progressively finer diamonds.

  3. 3

We apply a densifier to harden the surface.

  4. 4

We polish to the sheen you want.

  5. 5

We seal the surface for stain resistance.

Where it shines

  • No coating to peel, wear off, or fail.
  • Densified surface is hard and long wearing.
  • Natural, reflective concrete look.
  • Low maintenance for high-traffic spaces.

Honest limits

  • Polishing shows existing cracks, stains, and marks, it does not hide them.
  • A damaged slab may suit a coating better than polishing.
  • Less protection against salt and moisture than a full coating system.

Care and maintenance

Sweep and damp mop with a neutral cleaner. Keep salt swept up through the winter. A polished floor is low maintenance, but because there is no coating, the concrete itself takes the wear, so keep it clean and re-seal as needed over the years.

Polished Concrete FAQ

Will polishing hide the cracks in my floor?+

No. Polishing refines the concrete, it does not cover it. Cracks, stains, and old marks stay visible. If hiding damage matters, a coating may suit your floor better.

Is polished concrete slippery?+

A polished floor is smoother than bare concrete but is not unusually slick for foot traffic. We can adjust the finish if slip resistance is a concern.

How is it different from a coating?+

There is no coating on top. We harden and polish the concrete itself, so there is nothing to peel or wear off. The trade-off is that the slab shows through.

Does polished concrete need a coating?+

No coating, but we do apply a sealer for stain resistance. The sealer is not a wear layer the way a full coating system is.

Is it good for a garage?+

It can work, but a polished garage floor has no coating to seal against salt and snowmelt. For a garage that sees hard winter use, a coating system usually protects the slab better.
