Epoxy Flooring in Newport, MI and Southeast Michigan
Epoxy is a two-part coating that bonds to properly prepared concrete to form a hard, seamless surface. We do not roll it over bare concrete. The slab is ground first to open the pores and remove anything sitting on top, then the epoxy soaks in and locks on. A real ground and coated system is nothing like a store-bought kit. One-part kits go down over an unprepared floor, so they sit on the surface and peel where hot tires sit. A ground system bonds into the concrete itself, which is the whole reason it holds up.
Why this matters in Michigan
Michigan winters are hard on bare concrete. Road salt and de-icers break down the surface, and snowmelt dripping off cars soaks into the slab all season. A bonded epoxy coating seals that surface so salt and water cannot get in and start the cycle of damage.
Our process for epoxy flooring
- 1
We look at your floor, check for moisture and damage, and give you a quote.
- 2
We grind the concrete to open the surface and remove old coatings or contaminants.
- 3
We repair cracks and pitting so the coating goes down on a sound base.
- 4
We apply the epoxy base coat so it bonds into the prepared concrete.
- 5
We add your chosen finish, whether that is a clear seal or a color-flake broadcast, then topcoat for protection.
Where it shines
- Seamless surface with no grout lines to trap dirt.
- Bonds into ground concrete instead of sitting on top.
- Shrugs off salt, oil, and snowmelt.
- Cleans up with a broom and a mop.
Honest limits
- Needs a properly prepped slab to bond, so it is not a quick paint job.
- A glossy surface can be slippery when wet without a flake or texture.
- Will not hide existing cracks, it follows the shape of the slab.
Care and maintenance
Keep it swept and mop with a mild cleaner. Wipe up oil and salt sooner rather than later, and avoid dragging sharp metal across it. A bonded epoxy floor is low maintenance, but it is not indestructible, so treat it like the finished surface it is.
Epoxy Flooring FAQ
What is the difference between your epoxy and a store-bought kit?+
A store kit is usually a one-part coating rolled over an unprepared floor, so it sits on the surface and peels under hot tires. We grind the concrete first and use a two-part system that bonds into the slab, which is why it holds up.
Do you have to grind my floor first?+
Yes. Grinding opens the concrete pores and removes anything between the coating and the slab. Without it, even good epoxy will not bond and will lift over time.
Can you put epoxy over an old coating?+
The old coating has to come off first. We grind it down to bare concrete so the new epoxy bonds to the slab, not to a failing layer underneath.
Will epoxy hide the cracks in my floor?+
No coating hides the shape of the slab. We repair cracks and pitting before coating, but the floor follows the concrete underneath, so some marks may still read through.
Is an epoxy floor slippery?+
A glossy epoxy can be slick when wet. A color-flake broadcast adds texture and grip, and we can tailor the finish if slip resistance matters for your space.
