Floor Coating Questions

Answers to common questions about epoxy and concrete floor coatings.
How long does an epoxy garage floor last?+

A properly installed epoxy floor that's prepped and bonded to the concrete can last many years in a residential garage. The key is grinding and prepping the concrete first so the coating bonds instead of peeling.

Do you have to grind the concrete first?+

Yes. Grinding opens the pores of the concrete and removes old coatings, stains, and laitance so the new coating bonds. Skipping prep is the main reason cheap kits peel.

What's the difference between epoxy and polished concrete?+

Epoxy is a coating applied over the concrete for a glossy, colored, seamless surface. Polished concrete is the concrete itself, mechanically ground and densified to a natural sheen with no coating on top.

Can you coat over an old coating?+

Sometimes, but the old coating has to be sound and the surface still needs grinding. If the old coating is peeling, it has to come off first. We look at your floor and tell you straight.

Will hot tires peel the coating?+

A properly bonded coating system holds up to hot tires. Store-bought one-part kits often peel because they don't bond to prepped concrete. Our systems are built to take daily parking.

How do you handle cracks?+

Cracks are cleaned out and repaired before the coating goes down. Small cracks are filled; larger or moving cracks may need extra attention. We assess every floor before quoting.

Can epoxy go in a basement?+

Yes. Decorative epoxy works well in basements for a seamless, easy-to-clean surface. Moisture is the main concern, so we check the slab first.

What about moisture in the concrete?+

Moisture coming up through the slab can cause coatings to fail. We look for signs of moisture and talk through options if it's a concern.

Do you offer color options?+

Yes. We have a range of color and flake blends. You pick from physical samples so you see the real color, not just a screen.
